Dear Susan, For many years, I have been praying to God for a mentor to disciple and teach me in the marketplace. And God answered my prayers through you. I could still clearly remember the day I met you in front of the office meeting room. During that time, I was feeling lost and desperate and needed a breakthrough. The word you shared brought me back to my destiny. Your prayers encouraged me to rise up as a woman of God in the family, marketplace and ministry.  I felt so blessed by God as if I have found a precious jewel. Every word you shared was refreshing to my soul and encouraging to my spirit. Just like you mentioned that it was not coincidence for us to meet in time like this, I am truly grateful to God and to you for this season of my life. Truly I’ve seen the woman in Proverbs 31 manifested through your life.  May God’s grace be multiplied in your life as you bless and raise up more strong and godly women. Thank you. …

Dear Susan, I am grateful to you for the support and encouragement you rendered to me during one of the darkest periods of my life. I still remembered that you were back in the United States with Pastor Derek and the kids for your annual family visit when I could not hold on any longer and decided to pluck up the courage to call you. It was the most inconvenient thing to do. But I was desperate. Initially, I thought I could handle the situation and challenges myself and did not want to bother or burden another person, but the relief and encouragement I felt after talking to you and acknowledging that I needed help made me glad that I took the first step to seek help. In that few minutes of phone conversation, you were firm and yet gentle. You spoke clearly and it gave me the strength to set things right in my situation. Your counsel to me provided direction and encouragement. Throughout the call, I could sense your love and concern for …

Dear Susan, I have been very blessed to have you as my first cell group leader when I first joined City Harvest Church Singapore in 2000. As a very young believer, I did not know how to pray in the spirit or lead a spirit-filled life. During that time, I was also facing a major crisis in my life and you were there for me, constantly praying and counseling me. You taught me how to lean on the Holy Spirit, and the Word of God, and I began to grow stronger and more spiritual each day. Under your discipleship, I was often corrected by you and I am grateful for your teaching but there were times I was upset and angry that you were rather strict. But after thinking and praying through it, what you said brought about conviction in my life. You also taught me that if by apologizing we can make a person happy then we should do it for the sake of God, and to show to people that we have a …

Dear Susan, To me, you are an epitome of grace, womanly strength, godly wisdom and faith. Your beauty resonates from within, not intimidating but inviting. The glory of God indeed shines through you! You showed me that the strength of a woman is not in the sword she wields but in the nurturing of hearts and minds. Your wise words have greatly impacted my life. They come from a well of devoted prayer life, battles fought and won, and most of all, love. Divinely, you were always there to speak a word in season when I was at the crossroads. You showed me that faith in God and in his Word calls for total abandonment. Thank you for a relentless and selfless fight of faith not only for yourself but also for the many generations after. I am honored to be part of your life, to serve the vision God has given to you. Susan, I love you. Lim Shiyun Financial advisor Single

Dear Susan, You are an inspiration! I cannot remember a time when I shared something to you, even in passing, when you have not responded with acute wisdom. Many times, one sentence from you would “set me free.” Your counsel has been so piercingly sharp that it often re-direct my thinking in that instant and caused me to re-shape my priorities and way of life thereafter. In my times of confusion, the steadfastness of your counsel, firmly founded in the Word of God, never fails to impart in me the courage and strength to keep on fighting the good fight of faith. It is through these experiences that I understand the need to and the power of opening up to a leader like yourself who is sure-footed in Christ and brave-hearted to speak the truth to those in need. 2 Corinthians 3:3 says, “You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but …

Dear Susan, I would like to thank you for being my mentor over these few years. I have learnt how to have confidence in myself and how to trust in the Lord. It was this verse you shared with me that impacted me deeply. Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” During the period of discipleship with you, the one thing I really struggled is in the area of my finances. I could not be a faithful tither. I could only tithe as and when I had enough money as I was still heavily in debts. But because of this verse that you shared with me, I began to tithe faithfully, trusting that my God will provide all my needs. Now my life is totally transformed! I am free from debt and am still a faithful tither. Today, I am a confident person knowing who I am in Christ. Thank you Susan! …

Dear Susan, When I met you, I was going through a rough patch. My marriage had started off in extreme crisis, and I was considering divorce as an option as a newly wed. Both my husband and I struggled with a purposeless life. I recalled that you once shared about how a wise woman builds her house but with her own hands, but the foolish one tears hers down (Proverbs 14:1). Thank you for sharing the truth. I witnessed it myself and I saw the wise woman within you when you are with your husband, Pastor Derek. Both of you will openly show your mutual love for one another. You will hold each other’s hands and look so much in love. That scene was very real to me and it gave me hope and courage to try to work out my marriage with God in the center. I remembered clearly that you shared with us that both man and woman are equally important to God. A wife needs to be wise and strong, so as …
