For This Cause – 13 Years Of Marriage

This Oct 13 marks the 13th year of my marriage to Derek. Sometimes I am held in awe that it has been that many years when it seems like it was not too long ago that we had gotten married, moved into our very first home and gave birth to Ethan, our first born. 13 years to some may not be a very long time. However, I believe the quality of a union is not measured by the duration but by the depth of the relationship. There is a saying “Life is not measured by its duration but it’s donation”. In the same way, marriage is the bedrock of Christ-centered living only if we intentionally make it to be so. The two shall become one does not simply happen because a husband and wife live together under one roof. Having children sometimes helps in that process. However, that is not to be taken for granted either. Derek had just ended his recent series of sermon on “Being A Pioneer”. In my opinion, this is one …

Walking Out Of Destruction Into Destiny

On the 1st June Saturday morning, almost 100 women gathered together for our WOW31 meeting held in Singapore. It was amazing to see women from all walks of life fellowshipping freely and worshipping God with such passion and enthusiasm. I want to thank all of you who came and especially those who helped out at the meeting. As announced, I am posting a simplified version of my sharing from a very remarkable story in the Bible. In the book of Joshua, we are introduced to one of the most thought-provoking and astonishing heroines of the Old Testament. Rahab, the prostitute of the Canaanite city of Jericho, who ultimately was made famous for her great faith and earned her place in the lineage of Jesus Christ. Examining her life will shed deeper light into God’s plan for His church and for all of us individually. Here in Joshua Chapter 2, we read about the story of Rahab. Joshua 2:1-6 Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he …

True Freedom In Christ

This message was shared by Susan Dunn at a WOW31 Meeting on 8 Dec 2012 in Singapore. Who was Mary Magdalene?   Luke 8:1-3 (NKJV) Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.   She was part of the discipleship team. She was a provider for Jesus’ ministry. She was present at the crucifixion.   John 19:25 (NKJV) – “Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.” She was present at the burial   Mark 15:46-47 (NKJV) – “Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in …

Mother’s Day Message

According to a recent statistical study done in 2012, it was reported that there are two billion mothers in the world. And on the 2nd Sunday in the month of May, which is this weekend, the world celebrates Mothers’ Day. Most of these two billion mothers will be appreciated and celebrated. There is a Jewish Proverb that says, “God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.” While I may not fully agree with this saying but I agree that it takes a special grace to be a good mom. While preparing this message, I thought about whom could I liken mothers to and the following was I came up with. 1. Moms are Superheroes! Recently, our family went out to watch Ironman 3 and my children were totally won over by Ironman’s power and ability to save the world from the bad guys. While watching the movie, I couldn’t help but thought that moms are really like superheroes too! It does not matter if you are a working mom, or a stay-at-home mom, …

Elisa had also prepared her delicious handmade Indonesian …

Raising Children and Discipleship – Part 2

The latest series we have started is about Raising Children and Discipleship. And in the first part of this series, I shared that just because you have a child does not mean that you are qualified to be a nurturing parent. Likewise, having people under you that you are responsible for does not automatically qualify you to be their discipler.  Discipleship starts when we do the following: 1. Develop the DESIRE to become a spiritual parent 2. Seek out the people whose hearts God has opened to you 3. Get a burden for those you are called to I previously shared that making disciples is a universal calling for all Christians.  In fact, it is in the pouring out of one’s life for another – with the purpose to see him or her succeeding and be greater – that one finds the true significance of life. Significance is found in giving your life away, not in selfishly trying to find personal happiness. Hence, making discipleship is more than a responsibility; it is truly a channel through which …

WOW31 Summer Splash

On the 18th August 2012, about 100 Christian women came together for the inaugural WOW31 meeting. The event was named Summer Splash and all the women were encouraged to come in their brightest summer colors. And indeed it was a colorful event as the women came with excitement to worship God together and fellowship with other women of the same spirit.   The volunteer team comprising Joanne Chua, Amanda Lee, Joyce Chiam, Rosa Lee came early that morning to set up the place for the meeting. Joanne and Amanda looked after the registrations, food & beverage set-up and overall venue layout while Joyce worked hard at making sure the sound system was up and running. Rosa worked swiftly on the PowerPoint slides making sure every visual and slide was in order. As the women came, with bright smiles and excitement, they enjoyed the simple breakfast that was provided and mingled around, making friends. To open the meeting, Vivienne Leaw, a former flight attendant turned Financial Planner played two beautiful harp assemble. Vivienne came back to God …
