For This Cause – 13 Years Of Marriage

This Oct 13 marks the 13th year of my marriage to Derek. Sometimes I am held in awe that it has been that many years when it seems like it was not too long ago that we had gotten married, moved into our very first home and gave birth to Ethan, our first born. 13 years to some may not be a very long time. However, I believe the quality of a union is not measured by the duration but by the depth of the relationship. There is a saying “Life is not measured by its duration but it’s donation”. In the same way, marriage is the bedrock of Christ-centered living only if we intentionally make it to be so. The two shall become one does not simply happen because a husband and wife live together under one roof. Having children sometimes helps in that process. However, that is not to be taken for granted either. Derek had just ended his recent series of sermon on “Being A Pioneer”. In my opinion, this is one …

Walking Out Of Destruction Into Destiny

On the 1st June Saturday morning, almost 100 women gathered together for our WOW31 meeting held in Singapore. It was amazing to see women from all walks of life fellowshipping freely and worshipping God with such passion and enthusiasm. I want to thank all of you who came and especially those who helped out at the meeting. As announced, I am posting a simplified version of my sharing from a very remarkable story in the Bible. In the book of Joshua, we are introduced to one of the most thought-provoking and astonishing heroines of the Old Testament. Rahab, the prostitute of the Canaanite city of Jericho, who ultimately was made famous for her great faith and earned her place in the lineage of Jesus Christ. Examining her life will shed deeper light into God’s plan for His church and for all of us individually. Here in Joshua Chapter 2, we read about the story of Rahab. Joshua 2:1-6 Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. “Go, look over the land,” he …

True Freedom In Christ

This message was shared by Susan Dunn at a WOW31 Meeting on 8 Dec 2012 in Singapore. Who was Mary Magdalene?   Luke 8:1-3 (NKJV) Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.   She was part of the discipleship team. She was a provider for Jesus’ ministry. She was present at the crucifixion.   John 19:25 (NKJV) – “Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.” She was present at the burial   Mark 15:46-47 (NKJV) – “Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in …

WOW31 Summer Splash

On the 18th August 2012, about 100 Christian women came together for the inaugural WOW31 meeting. The event was named Summer Splash and all the women were encouraged to come in their brightest summer colors. And indeed it was a colorful event as the women came with excitement to worship God together and fellowship with other women of the same spirit.   The volunteer team comprising Joanne Chua, Amanda Lee, Joyce Chiam, Rosa Lee came early that morning to set up the place for the meeting. Joanne and Amanda looked after the registrations, food & beverage set-up and overall venue layout while Joyce worked hard at making sure the sound system was up and running. Rosa worked swiftly on the PowerPoint slides making sure every visual and slide was in order. As the women came, with bright smiles and excitement, they enjoyed the simple breakfast that was provided and mingled around, making friends. To open the meeting, Vivienne Leaw, a former flight attendant turned Financial Planner played two beautiful harp assemble. Vivienne came back to God …

21st Century Proverbs 31 woman – THE SISTERS’ KEEPERS

This message was shared by Susan Dunn at WOW31 Summer Splash on 18 August 2012. INTRODUCTION Proverbs 31:10-31 provided a long list of attributes about what this woman can do. It described her general character and her specific qualities. And what a long list it is!  To be a Proverbs 31 woman is truly no easy feat and what a tall order to fill! I have read this passage many times in my life as a Christian but it was only in 1999 when the Lord spoke to me through this passage that I really took a close look at it. To me the woman depicted in Proverbs 31 is too perfect and surely I thought no one would be able to achieve it. Well, at least not in this world! I often wonder what it means to be this woman. Does it mean that I can make a check on all the items on the list mentioned above? Some days I could put a check on some of the qualities but other days I …

Christian Marriage – Final Part

Hi everyone! I can’t believe that it’s been more than a month since my last post. I have been traveling a bit and could not settle down to write. Just a summary for those who are new at reading this blog, we have started our 4-part series on Christian Marriage. In our first article in this series, we talked about the Christian marriage being a symbol of Jesus redeeming the world through His ‘marriage’ to the Church and making her one with Him. In the second article, I discussed about how God wants us to adopt a ‘No Longer I’ attitude in our marriages. I also commented that true joy comes from loving someone with liberty. However this must be done in the boundary of God’s word and being guided by the Holy Spirit. My husband, Derek contributed the third article from a man’s perspective. He expounded on what men really want in their wives and that is the companionship of a helper. In other words, a soul mate! Whenever a man leaves his parents …

Christian Marriage – Part 3

What does a man really want from a marriage? This question has been asked throughout the ages by women as well as by men themselves. There have been numerous books, magazines and talk shows that have become popular by trying to answer this. For us to truly begin to understand the answer to this question, we need to go back to the beginning. In the Word of God, we get His perspective on marriage. Genesis 2:18; 21-24 (NLT) 18 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the LORD God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. 23 “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because …
